the beginning

The similar taste in music and passion for it brought the duo together to form Impulsive Response. The name started from the term “impulse response” which means an audio file that contains the sonic characteristics of musical equipment or environment. The desire to express themselves through music and take the listener on an impulsive journey to someplace else made the name ‘Impulsive Response’ perfect for this musical project. The instrumental compositions are influenced by Air, Pendulum, The Prodigy and although electronic, it has a narrative much like the soundtrack of Studio Ghibli.

We created this EP as a story of a character. A character, who’s going on a journey. As in any story, they go through different experiences, trying to find themselves. Too often we are forced to categorise ourselves and define everything that we do, therefore when creating this story we made it open minded so you can make your own version of the story. So what it will be for you? What will your character take from this journey?
The Robot
Our main character - the robot was inspired by the robot in the Studio Ghibli film “Castle in the Sky”. He wasn’t a main character and he wasn’t a living organism. He was a machine created by a now dead nation. There’s no back story of what happened to the robot right after the collapse of the city but we imagine he must have been quite lonely being the only surviving robot. Throughout many years he kept bringing flowers to his friends’ graves and found a little happiness in doing what he loved - looking after the animals and plants in a small piece of land. Just like the film, our character gets a happy ending, however difficult his life might have been.
